PvP modes, arena rules, and hardcore server plans

Scars of Honor is presented as neither a PvP-only nor a PvE-only MMORPG. The stated design goal is a balance between both sides of the game, even if PvP footage is often easier to use when showcasing combat abilities.

PvP and PvE balance

The recap repeatedly clarifies that the game's promotional footage leaning toward PvP does not mean the overall design is PvP-dominant. At the time of the discussion, PvE is described as an especially important focus because it must prove itself as fun and engaging.

Battleground and arena formats

The game includes multiple PvP formats. Arena play is centered on Talent Ring, which is described as the home of the arena mode. Shown or discussed variants include one-versus-one fights, same-class mirror duels, duo play, and solo arena participation.

A five-minute time limit is mentioned for at least one duel format, with only one round to decide the outcome.

Battlegrounds are described as having two broad rule sets:

  • skill-based modes where gear and level advantages are disabled and all participants enter on equal footing
  • progression-based modes where players bring their own gear and character advancement into the match

This creates a split between competitive normalization and gear-driven progression PvP.

Future battleground variety

Additional battleground concepts are discussed with the community, including capture-the-flag, base control, castle assaults, and larger objective-based warfare. No final list is established in the discussion, but the game is framed as open to multiple battleground structures beyond simple deathmatch.

Arenas are also said to support unusual formats, including a three-team arena setup.

Hardcore servers

Hardcore servers are announced as part of the broader PvE and PvP offering. These are described as a version of the same game experience tuned around greater risk, consequence, and mastery, aimed at players who want higher stakes.

Voice communication and moderation

The game is said to already have voice chat and proximity chat implemented. These systems are framed as useful for dungeon coordination and general communication. Questions about moderation are answered by stating that game masters are expected to be present in significant numbers.

Platform priority and cross-platform scope

A mobile version remains part of the broader project vision, but it is not treated as a current priority. PC optimization comes first, and only after that would assets be re-exported and optimized for mobile. This indicates that PvP and other core systems are being built first for PC rather than around immediate mobile parity.
