Origin of the name Scars of Honor

The name Scars of Honor is presented as an early branding decision made when the project was still a largely solo effort. The initial brainstorming involved the creator and his wife, who discussed broad MMORPG ideas and the kind of experience the game should represent.

A central idea behind the name is an engaging leveling journey. The title is associated with progression that leaves lasting marks on the character's soul, carrying significance from early play through the approach to maximum level. In that framing, "scars" refers to meaningful experiences and lasting impact, while "honor" suggests the tone and values the project wanted to convey.

Naming process

The naming process involved trying multiple possible titles and checking whether matching web domains were available. Once scarsofhonor.com was found to be free, the name was adopted immediately. The domain availability appears to have been a practical factor in finalizing the title.

Early design context

The same early discussions around the name also touched on broader MMORPG design goals. These included interest in unusual class concepts, such as a pirate-themed class, and a desire for tanks to feel more engaging rather than passive. Those ideas are presented as part of the creative environment in which the game's title was chosen, even though they are separate from the name itself.
