Ranger, mage, and knight class impressions in the PvP build

The session provides extended hands-on impressions of several playable classes in an older PvP build of Scars of Honor, especially ranger, mage, and knight. These impressions are shaped by battleground play and are repeatedly qualified as provisional because the build is old and not fully balanced.

Ranger

Ranger is repeatedly described as extremely strong in the shown build. Its strengths include kiting, ranged pressure, slows, and silence.

Abilities mentioned include:

  • Marksmanship, described as a sequence of three ranged attacks with the final hit slowing the target;
  • Smoke Bomb, described as an area silence;
  • Charge Shot, used as a heavy ranged hit.

Ranger is portrayed as effective at maintaining distance from melee classes, punishing mages, and controlling engagements. The class is also associated with strong battlefield mobility and the ability to chase or disengage.

Mage

Mage is presented as one of the most explosive classes in the build. It is repeatedly praised for visual effects and burst damage, while also being cited as potentially overtuned.

Abilities and effects mentioned include:

  • Phoenix Blast, a major burst spell that is visually prominent and frequently lethal;
  • Fire Barrage, described as a very strong damage tool;
  • Elemental Beam, called especially powerful;
  • Blink, used for instant repositioning;
  • Rings of Ice and phoenix-themed visuals, which are praised for animation and style.

A weakness noted during play is survivability. Mage is described as lacking a self-heal in this build, and the idea of adding a healing spell for the class is raised during the session. Mana limitations also appear in at least one duel sequence.

Knight

Knight is shown as a durable melee class with leaps, pressure in close quarters, and strong performance when multiple enemies are nearby. The class is associated with sticking power and punishing clustered opponents.

The session references a knight ultimate planned for the next build and describes it enthusiastically, though without a full mechanical explanation. Knight movement includes large jumps or leaps that are visually noticeable in PvP.

Knight gameplay in the old build can feel misleading in relation to the game's targeting model. Because of how some knight abilities behave, players may think the game is not tab-target, but it is explicitly described as a tab-target game.

Paladin and other mentions

Paladin is referenced in team compositions and as a melee presence that ranged classes should keep distance from. Healing interactions are implied in group fights, but the class is not broken down in detail.

Assassin is mentioned as one of the most requested classes. It is said to be planned for unlocking in a future build, though probably not the immediate next one.

Class balance in the old build

The dominant class impression from the session is that ranged classes are stronger than they should be in this version. Mage burst and ranger control are singled out most often. Knight remains effective, especially in coordinated pushes, but can struggle when kited by multiple ranged opponents.

These observations are framed as temporary characteristics of the October 2024-era build rather than final class design. Future updates are expected to revise both feel and balance.
