In the current Scars of Honor playtest there is a town vendor who sells purple (epic) equipment for gold, letting you skip ahead on gear before you have grinded drops. This guide explains who that vendor is on each faction, what it costs, and how the randomized stat rolls work so you can fish for the gear you actually want.
Important caveat: Scars of Honor is in an early playtest/alpha (2026), and the people who documented this vendor say plainly that it is a playtest convenience that probably will not exist once early access arrives. Treat everything below as a temporary playtest tactic, not a permanent system. Exact names, prices, level requirements, and the vendor itself are all subject to change.
Each faction has its own vendor for this epic gear:
The reason there are multiple Eric Southernit NPCs is that they do not all carry the same items. At one point each Eric sold a different subset of class gear; that was partly patched so one of them now appears to sell most items in a single place, but the stock still differs between the Eric NPCs. For example, one of them was observed selling only staffs, and the jewelry on offer can differ between vendors. Because of this, check all of the Eric locations rather than assuming the first one has what you need — a piece (or a stat roll) you can't find at one may be available at another.
Expect to need around 2,000 gold to buy a full set. The gear is a large power spike for an early character. Most of the armor pieces have a level 1 requirement, but weapons require around level 18, so you will be able to wear the armor long before the weapons.
Named examples seen on the vendors include the Apex Knight Cuirass, a rabbit charm for the necklace slot, and a vial of purity.
This is the core of how the vendor works. Each piece rolls random attributes when you buy it, drawn from a stat pool. The stats seen include vitality, strength, intelligence, movement speed, armor, dexterity, and health regeneration. A single piece can carry several of these at once — for instance one chest rolled intelligence, movement speed, armor, and vitality, while another rolled dexterity, health regeneration, and vitality.
Because the roll is random per purchase, you generally buy the same piece repeatedly until you get the stats you want. If you are chasing a specific stat such as vitality, you may have to re-buy a piece many times — and you may find that a given vendor's version of a piece does not roll the stat you are after at all, which is another reason to check the other Eric/Sed Mick locations. The vendors' stock refreshes, so coming back is part of the process.
When you buy a piece from this vendor it auto-equips immediately, the same way gear picked up off the ground is meant to auto-equip. This matters because most of the gear is class-specific — you'll see a class icon under the level indicator on the item — and a given vendor may not stock the piece for your class. One reported workaround during the playtest is that if you unequip your current item first and then buy a piece (even one that is not for your class), it will still auto-equip into the empty slot. That is how some players filled slots their own class vendor did not cover.
You cannot sell anything to the gear vendors. To sell items for gold, go to one of the other town NPCs instead — the tool vendor or the potion/food vendor. In town, vendor NPCs are marked with a bag icon on the mini-map.
Since a full set runs about 2,000 gold, you will need a steady income first. In the playtest, killing goblins drops gold, looted dead bodies have a chance to drop gold, and rare-or-better chests can drop gold as well.
If you are struggling to gear up early, the faction purple-gear vendor (Eric Southernit for Sacred Order, Sed Mick for Domination) is the fastest shortcut: save up about 2,000 gold, visit every vendor location, and re-buy pieces to roll the stats you want, unequipping first when you need an off-class slot filled. Just remember this is a playtest-only convenience that the creators expect to be gone by early access.
